Music & OST's

Hi everyone!

You probably are wondering what I am talking about. Today I will show you music groups that you have listened to but probably you don't know. How? With the OST's. We go on!

Mumford & Sons.

Mumford in a soundtrack? Oh, yeah, Brave from Pixar! And with Birdy! Learn me right.
I have to say that this is the song which I met Mumford & Sons with.

Here's another one of Mumford & Sons, in Wuthering Heights! The Enemy.

Of Monsters and Men

Silhouettes, from Of Monsters and Men (a fantastic group), is part of Catching Fire soundtrack :)

One Republic

One Republic have a huge participation in movie soundtracks. The more recent one is Ordinary Human from The Giver (which I haven't seen yet).

We have also from 2014 the song What you wanted from The fault in our stars. Beautiful movie, book even better. And a great soundtrack, in which One Republic is included, as also as Birdy again.

Finally, last but not least, we have Good Life, one of the songs that gave me the chance to met One Republic in one of my favourite comedies: Easy-A.

ABBA

To finish this post I would like to pick up a classic. Every one knows ABBA, they are the soul of Mamma Mia.

And that's all for now! Did you know who played this songs?

Best wishes,
Cat.

Harry Potter TAG

Hello everyone!

Today I am here with a Harry Potter tag, including books and the TV films. I think it's quite funny and you will be able to know me a little more. So we go on with the questions!

To accompany, here we have the video Harry Potter in 99 seconds.

  •  Which is you favourite book? Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, I think.

  • And your favourite film? Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.

  • Book you like the least  Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. I am not a friend of the Horrocruxes.

  • Parts of the books or films that made you cry WHEN SIRIUS DIED. Sirius Black ;__;

  • If you could be friends with any character, which one would you choose? Hermione. Because she's smart, good person and a good friend always.

  • Favourite character? Ron. He's a Weasley! And redhaired! And I don't know, sometimes I am pretty much like him, he's a wonderful character.

  • What your patronus would look like? I am not sure. I have made tests and all of them says The Dog. Well, like Ron's. See what I say? So I think it would be a dog or a wolf.

  • If you could have one of the Deadly Hallows, which would you choose? The Invisibility Cloak, of course. It's the most useful of all of them.

  • What Hogwarts house do you belong to? Here I am very sure. HUFFLEPUFF! Where they are good workers, just and loyal at heart.

  • If you could meet one of the cast members, who would be? Hmm. Probably Daniel Radcliffe. Or Michael Gambon. But I think that Harry Potter.

  • Have you played any of Harry Potter videogames? YES. I dunno play videogames, but when I was a child I used to play ONLY Harry Potter videogames. I have one about Quidditch to PlayStation2, another one for PC from The Goblet of Fire and the last one: Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban for DS.

  • Which would be your position in a Quidditch team? Mmm, Chaser I think.

  • Are you happy with the end of the saga? Yes, I am.

  • How does it mean Harry Potter to you? A lot. You know, it's all my childhood, and the last two years a reminder of them, it's like having 10 years again. JK have invented a whole world that, for me, is a classic in all fantasy and about magic literature.

Well, that's all for now. Let me know in the comments what do you think about Harry Potter!

Best wishes,
Cat.

The Legend of Ashitaka, OST.

Hello all!

Today I am here with the main theme of Princess Mononoke OST, another film of Studio Ghibli, one of the best ones. I think that, although is a good film, it's music is even better.

It is, in my opinion, a very beautiful song. Tell me yours in your commentaries!

Best wishes,
Cat.

The Impossible (Lo Imposible)

Hello all!

Today I am here with my opinion about last film I have seen: The Impossible. I know it's not in my TBW, but it was aired on TV recently. It's a spanish film, but it surprised me a lot.

Title: The Impossible (2012)
Genre: Drama. Disaster film. Based on a true story. Family relationships.
Country: Spain.
Director: Juan Antonio Bayona.
Screenwriters: Sergio G. Sánchez. (Original story: María Belón).
Cast: Naomi Watts, Ewan McGregor, Tom Holland, Geraldine Chaplin, Oaklee Perdergast, etc.
Music: Fernando Velázquez.
Awards:
  • 2012: Academy Awards: Nominated for Best Actress (Naomi Watts)
  • 2012: Golden Globes: Nominated to Best Actress Drama (Naomi Watts)
  • 2012: 5 Goya Awards: including Best Director. 14 nominations
  • 2012: National Board of Review (NBR): Best New Actor (Tom Holland)
  • 2012: Critics Choice Awards: 2 nominations
  • 2012: San Sebastian Film Festival: Official Selection (Out of Competition)
  • 2012: Chicago Film Critics Awards. 2 Nominations 2013: European Film Awards: Nominated for Best Actress (Naomi Watts)

Plot:
December 2004. The lives of María (Naomi Watts), Henry (Ewan McGregor) and their three small children who are spending their quiet holidays in Thailand turn into a nightmare when a huge tsunami engulfs the grounds of their hotel.
Trailer:

This is a very hard story. A hard film and, above all, it's real. Remember the tsunami in Thailand in December 2004? You probably remember from the news. This is the film of a spanish family and what they had to go trough the nightmare of the tsunami.

The film starts showing us the relationship between the family. This is important because it will not be the same at the end of the story.

They were in the hotel and, suddenly, the wave came. All the physical wounds, the desperation of not finding your family, the hell that their trip became.

This film shows you with almost every detail how is to live that. People never imagine, people do not care their lives until something happens, and we all should learn from them. It encourages you, and it tells you how cruel can all be. I was watching the film and I was feeling awful only imaging how bad was the situation.

I have to make an appointment regarding to María. She was the most hurt character. The strongest one, with her wounds, trying to survive for their little children and family. And she will never forget.
They will all even have not the same relationship.

A very hard movie, but I recommend it 100%. You will not forget.

I give it a 9/10!

And my congratulations to the director, Spanish movies are rising at last.

Let me know you opinion. Have you seen this film? What do you think? How did you feel when you watched it?

See you later!

Best wishes,
Cat.

FILM TAG: Cinema Deseases

Hello!

How are you? Today, I am doing something different. A Film Tag! What is it? It is a way of knowing me a little better by my tagged films according to the rule they have to follow. I think you will understand it soon. For example, the first one is to tag a very sweet film for you (Diabetes).

I saw this tag originally in the blog El Escondite de Kitty, but it is in spanish.

Now, we go ahead!

1. Diabetes. [A very sweet film].

LETTERS TO JULIET.

This is a very romantic film, but in a sweet way, that's why I tag it here. Sophia (Amanda Seyfried) is a young engaged girl who travels to Italy. She discovers that there is a place where people write letters to Juliet, the one from Romeo & Juliet, asking for advice, and a group of people that reply to them. She finds a letter written in 1957 that she answers, with a lot of consequences.

I loved so much this film the first time I saw it that I watched it three days straight!

2. Chickenpox. [A film you have never watched again].

HEREAFTER.

If you watch the trailer this seems a good, thoughtful movie, but believe me, it's ugh (for me). I never saw it again. The topic was good, it could be a good movie, but... no. Matt Damon's character was on his own, the rest of the characters too, it was almost nothing related to nothing.

3. Influenza -"the flu"-. [Their fame expands like a virus].

BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY'S.

This is one of the most known films of all history. Wherever you go, wherever you are, everyone knows "Breakfast at Tiffany's", it has a symbol, everyone loves it. For me, it's fame has expanded like a virus. I didn't like it at all. I don't like the characters, I don't like the message this film have. And I don't know why everybody love the film. [Remember, this is only my opinion. Maybe if you watch it you like it, idk].

4. Cycle. [A film you always watch].

PRIDE AND PREJUDICE.

Here I couldn't think of any other than Pride & Prejudice. Even having seen the film 17 times (Really, I count them!), I always want to watch it again and again and I never get bored. It's my favourite story of all time without doubt. (Yeah, I'm also a huge fan of Austen). 2005's version, with Keira Knightly and Matthew McFadyen. Idk, I love it.

5. Insomnia. [A film because of what you weren't able to go to sleep for watching it].

DEAD POETS SOCIETY.

I loved this film when I watched it, about a couple of years ago. Now, I would like to watch it again. I remember I was already in bed, with the computer, watching Neil and Todd and Charlie and all DPS *_* until three o'clock in the morning or something like that, I'd rather watched it than go to sleep, yep. Brilliant film.

RIP Robin Williams, you'll always be in my heart, great actor.

6. Amnesia. [A film you have watched but you remember nothing about it].

THE WILD.

I MUST have watched this, because I have The Wild in my DVD's library at home, and I think I liked it, but really, I do not remember a thing. I usually confuse The Wild with Madagascar, I don't know why, I don't remember any.

7. Asthma. [A breathtaking film].

BIG FISH.

Big Fish is that kind of film that doesn't leave you indifferent. It's very odd. You love it or you hate it. Personally, I love it. It mixes reality and fantasy, you never know what is real and what's not. It kinda creates a magical atmosphere and it's so beautifully done that is breathtaking, for me.

8. Malnutrition. [A film that has a poor plot].

MY NEIGHBOR TOTORO.

Totoro. The very best known Miyazaki's film. Totoro is a wood spirit, and one of the most famous characters of japanese animation. Everybody loves and says how cute is Totoro. However, I watched the movie in two days and I spent them waiting for something to happen in the story. The movie is like 70 minutes and the first 40-50 minutes are nothing. Nothing interesting happens. It's like there's no plot! Malnutrition! Boring!
I don't understand why everyone likes it very much.

9. Motion sickness. [A film that has travelled you through time and space].

ANASTASIA.

This is one of my chilhood's favourites films. It makes me immerse in the Revolutional Russia, to love this story, this characters and songs. I think it is my best option for a film wich makes you travel though space and time and really believe this story. Historically it's all a lie, but I love this film.

Breaking Bad, Season 1.

Hello there!

How are you? Me,  I've just finish the first season of a lately very well-known series: Breaking Bad. I am sure you have heard about it.

Title: Breaking Bad.
Season: 1. [2008].
E/S: 7 episodes in season 1.
M/E: 45 minutes per episode.
Production Co.: AMC.
Genre: Crime. Drama. Thriller.
Country: United States of America.
Director: Vince Gilligan.
Screenwriters: Vince Gilligan, George Mastras, Peter Gould, Sam Catlin, Moira Walley-Beckett, Thomas Schnauz, John Shiban, Gennifer Hutchison, J. Roberts
Cast: Bryan Cranston, Aaron Paul, Anna Gunn, Dean Norris, RJ Mitte.
Music: Dave Porter.
Awards: The Infinite Awards Breaking Bad have. 115 wins & 191 nominations.

Synopsis:
When chemistry teacher Walter White is diagnosed with Stage III cancer and given only two years to live, he decides he has nothing to lose. He lives with his teenage son, who has cerebral palsy, and his wife, in New Mexico. Determined to ensure that his family will have a secure future, White embarks on a career of drugs and crime. He proves to be remarkably proficient in this new world as he begins manufacturing and selling methamphetamine with one of his former students. The series tracks the impacts of a fatal diagnosis on a regular, hard working man, and explores how a fatal diagnosis affects his morality and transforms him into a major player of the drug trade. (Source: IMDb).

Here we have a good guy, teacher of Chemistry in High School. One day, he discovers that he has cancer. In an advanced degree. Lungs cancer. This affects him and he thinks "Well, I'm going to die anyways, I don't care" and starts to cook meth with an old student of his. That's the basic plot everyone have heard.

I've just finished the first season and at the end it has surprised me. I started to watch the series long ago, and I didn't like it at all. The first chapter seemed boring to me. Okey, one man now had cancer, but what else? I just wondered why everyone was so amazed about this series and also drugs are against my ethic.

But.

Second and third episodes were meh. The fourth was good and the rest of the season was better and better, I watched it in one day and I ended up enjoying it. The characters are not strangers anymore, the story goes on and it takes stability, something that first episodes hadn't. I also kinda like more the plot in the following episodes.

About the characters, I'm sorry but I don't like Walt. At all. I can't understand what he's always doing, and what is he thinking. He's a strong man, I don't doubt it, but some things make no sense.
On the other hand, I understand better his wife Skyler, which I heard everybody hates -who knows why-. Finally, the one that I like the most by the moment is Jesse (Walt's "partner in crime"). I think the more I know him, the more he's agreeable to me. And he's very credible as a character.

In conclusion, I think this could be a good series that show you the cruelty of the real world, but also a lot of action and interesting characters. I will continue watching it, we will see how it goes on next season. At this moment I think that the series are worth trying to watch, at least all first season.

Let me know your opinions!

Best wishes,
Cat.

November & December TBW

Hello there!

Now we are inaugurating a new section: The TBW. The films and series To-Be-Watched in the following November and December. I can't promise I'll watch all of them but they are my goal in this two months, and then I probably will post the reviews.

Moonrise Kingdom

Set on an island off the coast of New England in the 1960s, as a young boy and girl fall in love they are moved to run away together. Various factions of the town mobilize to search for them and the town is turned upside down -- which might not be such a bad thing. (Source: FilmAffinity).
[Drama, Wes Anderson, 2012].

Another film by the genius Wes Anderson. I am very excited for what he is going to show us in this film and if it is as good as people say.

The Adventures of Tintin: Secret of the Unicorn.

When Tintin purchases a scale model of a ship called the Unicorn from a market, he makes an enemy of the mysterious Ivanovich Sakharine, who is desperate for the model himself. The young journalist's inquisitive nature son lands him in the middle of a race against time to discover the secret behind the Unicorn. Helped by the booze-swigging Captain Haddock and his helpful dog Snowy, can they beat Sakharine to the secret, or will the sinister villain solve the mystery first? (Source: FilmAffinity).
[Animation/Adventure, Steven Spielberg, 2011].

A film about Tintin. With Steven Spielberg as Director. And Peter Jackson, it is said in the cover. With Steven Moffat as Screenwriter. My question is, why I haven't watched this yet?

Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind (AKA Warriors of the Wind)

Centuries after war has devastated the earth, Princess Nausicaa leads the people of the Valley of the Wind. Feuding clans fight with planes and tanks as well as swords in a world that is both primitive and futuristic. In addition to her people's conflicts with other factions, Nausicaa must also contend with the insects of the jungle including the Ohmu, a race of giant, intelligent bugs that poisons the surrounding atmosphere - and is spreading rapidly. (Source: FilmAffinity).
[Animation/Adventure/Fantasy/Sci-Fi, Hayao Miyazaki, 1984].

There are so much Studio Ghibli's films I haven't seen yet. And Miyazaki's. This is one of the oldest ones, when the Studio was only starting. I'm curious, I think I'm gonna like it, but we'll see.

Seven

Gluttony, greed, sloth, envy, wrath, pride, and lust--these are the seven deadly sins that are being punished with unimaginable cruelty and calculation by an enigmatic killer in David Finchers bleak thriller SEVEN. Set in a perpetually gloomy unnamed city, the film follows Somerset (Morgan Freeman), a retiring police detective, as he experiences his final week on the job, reluctantly working with assertive newcomer Mills (Brad Pitt). When an obese man is found brutally murdered in his home, the seasoned Somerset realizes this is no ordinary killing--someone tortured him because of his appetite. Slayings that reflect the sins of greed and sloth soon follow, leading Somerset and Mills on a desperate search to find the mysterious John Doe, who is responsible for these methodical murders. As the case builds to a startling conclusion, both Somerset and Mills become more involved than they ever could have imagined. (Source: FilmAffinity).

[Thriller, Mistery, Crime. David Fincher, 1995].

A friend recommended this film to me, so I'll see this film soon when I have time to have an opinion about it. Meanwhile, it looks interesting.

Ruby Sparks

Calvin Weir-Fields (Paul Dano) is a novelist struggling with writer's block finds romance in a most unusual way: by creating a female character named Ruby Sparks (Zoe Kazan) he thinks will love him, then willing her into existence. (Source: Filmaffinity).

[Romantic Comedy/Drama/Fantastic/Literature, Jonathan Dayton & Valerie Faris, 2012].

THIS film. It is like the dream of every writer becoming true, to make real you own character, or anybody else's character you like. I have the feeling that it will be a delicious and unforgetful story, I am so looking forward to watching it.

Series

I need to catch up all the episodes of the latest season of these series, especially Doctor Who.

Well, that's all for now. Have you seen this films or series? What opinion of them do you have? Tell me in the commentaries!

Best wishes,
Cat.

Becoming Jane

Hi everyone!

Today I am here with a review of the film "Becoming Jane", that I recently have seen. For those who do not know, I am a huge fan of Jane Austen, and that is what this film is about.

Title: Becoming Jane (2007)
Genre: Drama, Romantic, Biographic, Historic.
Country: United Kingdom.
Director: Julian Jarrold (Great Expectations TV film)
Screenwriters: Kevin Hood (Man and Boy), Sarah Williams (Poppy Shakespeare) and Jane Austen (her own letters).
Cast: Anne Hathaway, James McAvoy, Julie Walters, James Cromwell, Maggie Smith.
Music: Adrian Johnston.
Awards:

  • Won the Truly Moving Sound Awards (Heartland Film Festival, 2007).
  • Won the People's Choice Awards 2008 (USA) for Favorite Independent Movie.

Here is the trailer:

Synopsis:
"The year is 1795 and young Jane Austen (Anne Hathaway) is a feisty 20-year-old emerging writer who already sees a world beyond class and commerce, beyond pride and prejudice, and dreams of doing what was then nearly unthinkable--marrying for love, without any regard for financial well-being.

Naturally, her parents (Julie Walters, James Cromwell) are searching for a wealthy, well-appointed husband to assure their daughter's future social standing. They are eyeing Mr. Wisley (Laurence Fox), nephew to the very formidable, not to mention the very rich, local aristocrat Lady Gresham (Maggie Smith), as a prospective match. But when Jane meets the roguish and decidedly non-aristocratic Tom Lefroy (James McAvoy), sparks soon fly along with the sharp repartee. His intellect and arrogance raise her ire--then knock her head over heels." (Source: FilmAffinity).

I love the plot. Really. And the great film. It has this usual charm of all Austen's world, including the real world and her writings. Despite the fact that it reminds me of Pride and Prejudice, it is a biography of Jane Austen's youth, her relationship with Tom Lefroy and her evolving as a writer.

At first we are introduced to Jane and the rest of her family. Here I was a bit lost because they do not introduce them very clearly. I ended only knowing who are Cassandra and Henry Austen, and Jane is supposed to have seven siblings. However, the truth is that maybe the rest in this period of time in Austen's life are not so important.

[About Anne Hathaway playing Jane, I am not sure if it was a good idea because her face is very known in Hollywood and I think I didn't imagine Jane as Hathaway. Nevertheless, she has done a truthful work about the manners and personality of Jane and I have to congratulate her. She even had to fake her accent to become British one.]

Not very much afterwards, we meet Tom Lefroy. He is not perfect, he is human. He is arrogant, selfish and young, but poor and occasionally idealistic. While the film goes on, we witness how the character grows and evolves, I'd say thanks to Jane. This time I am completely agree with the cast choice. James McAvoy enlivens a fantastic Tom Lefroy for who everybody will fall.

This is a film about love, but also about society and the limits of social condition, between others, like all Jane Austen's novels. We have marriages for money, the debate of marrying for love, the role of the family, the pride, the real world, the social conditions and the social life. Also, a Jane like the writer she was, which is essential to show in this story.

However, it is important to say that the romance showed in the film is fictional or "a legend", despite being a biographical production, because in real life we do not have proves they had a romantic relationship, but an intimate one indeed; they are assumptions from Austen's letters.

Last but not least, I would say the staging is very good, they filmed on location in Britain and Ireland. A good script (I don't mind very much that faults I have commented before, because I have enjoyed a lot the film), delicious scenes and above all, the amazing clothing or atrezzo and a better performance of the actors with all great characters. Actually, the clothing of the actors now are in the "Jane Austen's House Museum" in Southampton, where the writer lived her last years.

I give it a 8,5/10!

I hope you enjoyed the review, please comment below you opinions.

Best wishes,
Cat.
